What, When, Where!
The Giving Market is an annual not-for-profit market that celebrates the kindness of strangers in the age of austerity!
Its aim is to ensure that everyone can give something beautiful and feel cared for this festive season, no matter our financial circumstances. It celebrates circular economy and sustainable giving, so our earth is happy too.
We’ve been collecting donations of homewares, candles, clothes, books, kids’ toys, plants, jewellery and more. On the day, we’ll transform the space into a beautiful twinkly shop full of festive gifts for you to take home!
Thursday 30th November (St Andrews Day Public Holiday)
12pm – 7pm (live music 5pm – 6pm)
At Your Space Fife, 260 High Street, Kirkcaldy, KY1 1LA
How it Works
No money is exchanged for items. You will be given free tokens at the door (at least 6 tokens per person). You can use these tokens to “buy” any item at the market.
1 token = 1 item. It’s that simple!
What to Expect
A warm welcome
Cosy atmosphere + all the good vibes
Free snacks & non-alcoholic drinks
A raffle with gift vouchers donated from local businesses
Live music from singer-songwriter Lhamo Grace between 5pm and 6pm
Want to come?
Choose from the following time slots:
12pm – 2pm
2pm – 5pm
5pm – 7pm (includes an hour of live music by Lhamo Grace at 5pm – 6pm)
Accessibility
Your Space Fife is on the ground floor. There is a small step at the front entrance. The front door is too narrow to be wheelchair accessible.
We will have a wheelchair, mobility aids and sensory aids inside the venue for anyone who would like to use them within the market, and volunteers will be available if you need support.
If you use a wheelchair and would like to come along, we’re offering a virtual personal shopper service. You’ll have first dibs on the market items. Before the day, you can let us know who you’re shopping for or the kind of gift you’re looking for. We’ll send you pictures of the items and you can choose your favourites. On the day, we’ll greet you at the door and bring you your items (gift wrapped if you’d like) or we can drop them round to you if you live locally. If you’d like to use this personal shopper service, just email Nadia by Sunday 26th November: info@everydaywrites.com
Want to Volunteer?
We’re volunteer-run and need people to help out on the day: setting up the market, greeting people, giving out snacks & drinks, and all the things that’ll help the day go smoothly. If you have an hour or two to spare on 30th Nov, or would even like to volunteer for the whole day, please email Erin: erinleach@hotmail.co.uk
Want to donate?
The Giving Market is free and not-for-profit. We're all volunteers. Your Space Fife has donated free venue hire. We are raising £300 to cover the catering costs, heating costs, and musician fees. If you’d like to contribute financially, you can give a donation on the day, online or in cash.
Getting Here by Public Transport
Kirkcaldy is on the east coast mainline, with regular trains from Edinburgh, Dundee and Perth. The train station is 10 minutes from the venue.
Regular buses run from the surrounding areas. Kirkcaldy bus station is 5 minutes from the venue.
The ethos of Everyday Writes Spaces
Everyday Writes spaces online and in-person have a zero telerance policy on discrimination including racism, homophobia and transphobia, and aim to be actively inclusive and accessible. Please only come along if you share these values.
How it Started
We held our first Giving Market last December in Aberdour and this year we're bringing it to Kirkcaldy! It's a collaboration between Erin (human rights researcher) and Nadia (aka Everyday Writes) and began as a conversation about how we could combine our skills (Erin's an incredible organiser and Nadia has an eye for making things look beautiful on a shoestring!) to create a meaningful and free festive event. The response to last year's market was incredible and moving, so we're making it an annual event.
We can't wait to welcome you at the market. It's gonna be lush!
